July 1, 2013
Dear Readers,
I’m reminding everybody
about an opportunity for a great day at the races while
you attend the world famous Alameda County Fair.
The first running of the
“Casual Lies Handicap” will be run at the Alameda County Fair on July 4, 2013.
As the owner and trainer of Casual Lies, I have been accorded the honor of
presenting the trophy to the owner of the winning horse.
I’ll also be available to
sign copies of “Casual Lies - A Triple Crown Adventure,” before and after the
trophy presentation. Bring your copy and I will sign it. There will be a
limited number of copies available for sale.
The Alameda County Fair is
ranked the 39th largest Fair in the United States, with over 500,000 visitors
attending last year’s nineteen day run. Please come out, it's a great fair, and
I look forward to meeting everyone.
If you live too far away to
attend, a lot of the simulcast facilities around the country will be open and
some will be streaming the race and the presentation live. So check with you
local simulcasts about times.

I will be talking further about
second chances in my next blog post, so check back. Also I've been
participating on www.goodreads.com and
their author program. I have been meeting new people and participating in group discussions. Rating and reviewing some of the books I’ve read over the
years, has been very entertaining. I am building a following of goodreaders who
like my reviews, I urge everyone who loves reading to sign up for Goodreads. On
occasion I will add one of my reviews to my blog posts for your entertainment.
To that end, here is my review of “Lonesome Dove.” I rated it 5 stars out of 5.
If I had not seen the
mini-series first I would’ve put this book down in the first chapter―pigs, dust
and rattlesnakes. For me it started so slow, it was an effort to turn the
pages. When I finished the book, I grieved. I grieved because there was not another
page to turn, I grieved for the loss of the friends left behind within its
pages, and I grieve even now―because I wasn’t the one who wrote it.
Thank you for reading and
take care,
Shelley Riley
